Nose: Loads of pepper and nutmeg! Earthy, old leather, dusty saloon floors, sherry, strawberry jam. Raisins, Anejo tequila agave, burnt pie crust, touch of burnt tire rubber, old Cognac rancio. With water there is vanilla and fruity/floral.
Palate: Quite some oak impact. Black tea, seared orange slices, licorice. Some pepper and nutmeg but not as spicey as the nose would suggest. Bay leaves, cloves, dried tobacco leaves, dried papaya, marmalade. Given some time in the glass some juicy fruitiness balances out the dryness somewhat and water balances even further.
Finish: Nose is superb but after 30 years in oak casks the wood makes a little too much impact on the palate and finish which knocks off a point or two.
